Fun Facts about Our Area

Jimmy Ray Dean was born in Olton in 1928 and grew up in Plainview. Although Dean was most famous for creating the Jimmy Dean sausage brand, he was originally a singer and national television personality.  

Steve Martin’s popular 1992 movie Leap of Faith was set in a fictional town, Rustwater, but was actually filmed in Plainview. In fact, our downtown water tower still bears the name and mascot of that fictional town, The Rustwater Bengals. 

Z.T. Maxwell and E.L. Lowe are considered Plainview’s first settlers. Although a Deed of Dedication and Town Charter weren’t executed until 1888, the first post office was established in the area in 1887.
